Hi, my name is Ev and I have a relative with a new born. I was wondering if anyone knew of any groups or websites that help single parents with the everyday struggles of being a single parent.

thanks

  • I have thought of starting such a thing myself! If this person is in the Bay Area things are a tad easier, methinks. There are Single Parent Support Groups through some hospitals (and churches if that's their bag) and Craigslist usually has a few single moms looking to network. Always a good idea to join up on Tribe and try to connect. There are some websites like, Single Parent Central, Single Parents Network, you can do a Google search and find stuff. If it's a Single Parent by Choice (for example, a sperm donor) there is a specific group for that. I think Yahoo even has some groups relating to that.

I would love to offer a bit of my time. Having a newborn is really tough. I am in the East Bay. I can inbox you with my phone number if that seems appropriate.

Good luck! Very kind of you to help out.

  • Hey
I know this was posted a long time ago but I am just now getting around to reading all these...anyway, besides the other orgs that were already suggested, you may try to set something up yourself. It is not that difficult (I set up the Single Parents Resource Network www.sprn.org in Austin, Tx several years ago). It just takes motivation and some time. Let me know if you have any particular questions but I'd say begin slowly - just put out postings at your favorite coffee shops/hang out places and also of course craigslist and see who shows up. It can be a great way to create community.
    Good luck!
  • It depends on which side of the bay you live on. I am a single dad in the east bay (SF Bay area) , and there are a few dads groups; maybe not single,, but probably supportive. Berkeley Parents network has links to all kinds of stuff, including single parent sites. I have looked for single parent support groups, and the only one we had out her in Contra Costa county (at some church in Lafayette) dissapeared. That is part of the reason ended up here. Single parenting is a lot of work, so a networking site like this sort of fits in and around my free time, such as it is. I haven't used it as a resource myself, but Bananas comes up a lot. They seem to be very well thought of as an advocacy group, clearing center, help me out kind of place.
